Janice Laursen was born and raised on Shaw island-- a small jewel nestled in the center of the San Juan island chain. She saw fire performers for the first time at a TchKung show in Seattle and was immediately captivated by it. She was hooked, although she didn't get involved in dancing with fire until a few years later. It was then that she met Bridget, a fire-dancer who taught her the art during a summer on Orcas Island. Janice was obsessed with the art and spent that summer honing her skills-- playing at local parties and events. She felt that fire was her balance, having grown up surrounded by water.

In 2004, Janice joined the Northwest Fire Conclave-- a group that performs at Burning Man. She also prepared for a performance with local Seattle group; Cirque de Flambe. Her experience was amazing-- her love for fire was reinforced by seeing and experiencing the many different fire tools and creativity present at Burning Man. She had the opportunity to spin "pyro" poi, which was a particularly outstanding experience in her life.

Toward the end of 2005, she joined Spinergy Arts, which Janice calls "an amazing group of creative, inspiring individuals with the same love and respect of fire and performance" that she has.

Janice possesses a lifelong love of dance and music, which have been a key influence. In addition to fire, Janice's passion for dance has led her to study belly dancing and latin dancing, which she incorporates into her fire performances.

Spinergy Arts is excited to have her amazing skill set and exuberant personality as part of our team.
